Hungerford is a historic and pretty market town in West Berkshire. The town is approximately 8 miles west of Newbury and 9 miles east of Marlborough. The Kennet and Avon Canal passes through the town alongside the River Dun, a major tributary of the River Kennet.
This popular town is well known as being an antiques centre but it also benefits from all the other local amenities you would expect including local schools and independent shops, cafés and restaurants. The town also benefits from two supermarkets, a doctors surgery, library and a gym and there are several local clubs and societies. Hungerford railway station in the centre of the town offers easy access to London Paddington while Junction 14 of the M4 is approximately 3 miles to the north of the town.
Highlights of the year in the town include Tutti day or Hocktide in April and the Victorian Extravaganza in December.
The surrounding countryside forms part of the Wessex downs Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and there are plenty of opportunities for exploration along footpaths and bridleways with Marlborough common on the edge of the town and the Ridgeway and Wayfarers walk being within a short drive.
