We are proud to be sponsoring The Big Town Read as part of Marlborough Literary Festival.
The festival is held at the end of September every year in our historic market town and celebrates the best of writing and books with events for all ages and tastes.
This is the 15th year of the festival with a packed programme full of more than 40 events across the festival weekend. This year's line-up includes LitFest Patron Sir Simon Russell Beale, 2024 Golding Speaker Linda Grant, Celia Imrie, Robert Hardman, Kate Mosse, William Dalrymple, Zeinab Badawi, Robert Peston, Sarah Perry, Martin Sixsmith, Jonathan Dimbleby, Felix Francis and children's author and illustrator duo Philip Reeve and Sarah McIntyre.
The Big Town Read invites people to read The Secret Life of John le Carré and get ready to ask questions of the author Adam Sisman at The Big Town Read at Marlborough Town Hall (The Assembly Room) on Sunday 29th September 2024.
"When Adam Sisman published his fascinating biography of John le Carré in 2015, there was one aspect of his subject's life that he couldn't include: the women who had inspired le Carré's writing. Sisman had struck a deal with the spy writer: in return for le Carré's continued cooperation, he would shut down several lines of inquiry until after the author's death. When le Carré died in December 2020, followed two months later by the death of his loyal wife Mary, Sisman was free to publish the full story."
